Our Values

Hey everyone, thanks for checking stopping by. I have mixed feelings about 2020. It’s been an absolutely devastating year for all of us. So many families have felt the pains of losing loved ones to COVID-19 and the also harsh reality of losing their jobs, homes and stability as we have come to know it.

On the glass half full side, many of us have used this time to reflect, grow and improve as human beings. I’m not just talking about starting a side business, learning to bake, or picking up a new craft. I’m talking about the deep growth that comes from slowing your life down, realizing the nature of reality free of the distortions we all put on things, and prioritizing what is really important.

When we started doing seaweed tours two years ago (as a byproduct of our commercial seaweed harvesting / farmer’s market operations) I never thought we would have the recognition that we do now and that I would fall in love with this “seaweed educator” position that sort of fell on my lap.

I truly enjoy meeting all of you and showing your the joys of foraging, cooking outside and taking the time to slow down and appreciate the nature around us and the nature within us.

Looking back, I had an inactive page on my website that was titled Teach a Person to Seaweed. While trying to work on my site, I found this and had an epiphany (well, that may be a little exaggerated, but hey, why not).

Marley Family Seaweeds truly is founded upon this philosophy. My joy, my “why” in this business is derived from teaching you how to forage and the knowledge you need to take this activity and enjoy it for life. Teaching children is especially rewarding in this aspect. At the end of our tours, I always remind people to stay in touch because we’re friends now. I can’t tell you how much joy I get when people send me photos months later of seaweed they’ve harvested in their own corners of the world.

Let’s hope that with the dawn of 2021, many things turn the corner in our world, but let’s not forget all that introspection that this harsh year has brought upon us.

Hope to see you out here soon!
